Drive Your Car

Anti-Lock Braking System Must Be There in Your Car

In the situation of emergency braking, the main factor is whether your vehicle has an Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) fitted or not. From the past few year al the cars are coming with ABS fitted in them. This system stops the wheels by locking them up and then skidding whenever the brakes are used in a situation of emergency. This system also allows the driver to go on with the effective steering even while applying the brakes harshly and this is a very good advantage of this system. This system also woks by turning the brakes of the vehicle on and off a number of times a second and kicks in only in the situation of braking heavily.

The very next thing is the process of stopping the car in a situation of emergency with ABS fitted. One must keep his/her hands holding the steering wheel firmly and then press down on the pedal of the brake as much hard as you really can and do remember to keep the full pressure applied on the pedal of the brake till you come to a stop. Just before you finally come to a stop, press down the pedal of clutch also as this will stop the engine of the vehicle from stalling. Do not panic at all if a pulsating sensation or a noise is coming from the pedal of the brake. It is absolutely normal for the ABS to make such sensation and noise too.

But what if the car is not fitted with an Anti-Lock Braking System? Then procedure for an emergency stop is as follows. Keep your hands holding the steering wheel firmly and then press down on the pedal of the brake firmly but not very hard that the vehicle’s wheel lock up and your car begin to skid. If the situation of locking up of the wheel comes then remove your feet away from the pedal of the break until the wheel again starts to rotate. After the rotation of the wheels begins, reapply the brakes but not very harshly.

Do also keep in mind that you must also press down on the pedal of the clutch before you finally come to a stop, as this will stop the engine of the car from stalling. When the brakes are overused they can even lose their efficiency or can even overheat. This is known as fading of the brakes.
