The BMW X6 SUV: Is It a 4x4 Too Far?

Author: Jo Alexander

The recipe for the BMW X6 seems quite simple, take the mechanics, size and stature of a 4x4 and then combine it with the body shell of a coupe, which is designed to seat four people. Surely however, if you have gone through the expense of buying and running a large SUV you would expect that it could carry more people than an averaged sized hatchback. Especially when Volvo XC90 does the job of carrying seven people so well.

Nevertheless BMW believe that the X6 offers the latest evolution in sports utility vehicles combining dynamic excellence with driver enjoyment, and designed to take on rivals in the form of the Porsche Cayenne, Range Rover Sport and Mercedes ML63. However with uncertain petrol prices, high running costs and growing public antipathy towards large 4x4's many previous SUV owners are returning to more humble hatchbacks and saloons.

Inside the BMW X6, the driver is still afforded the lofty driving position that would be recognised by any 4x4 owner, however it is the performance and handling that provides the biggest surprise. Underneath the bonnet is a 4.4 litre V8 engine, which produces 400 bhp and is able to propel this giant of car to 60 in 5.4 seconds.

The BMW X6 comes with an 8 speed automatic that can be controlled by paddles on the steering wheel should you feel the need to make the gear changes yourself. However its BMW's Dynamic Performance Control software that really allows this SUV to shine. The DPC senses the power and grip available to each wheel, and so when one starts to slip, power is automatically transferred to another wheel that has more grip.

From the outside the BMW X6 is certainly an imposing sight with its large 20 inch alloy wheels, powerful xenon headlights, and sleek coupe style body. This is a vehicle sure to stand out on the road, especially when you consider it is wider and longer than the more conventional BMW X5.

There is no getting around the fact that the BMW X6 is a very large 4x4, that will dwarf most vehicles on the road, and perhaps will not be the most subtle way to travel in the current troubled economic climate. However it is also true to say that BMW has introduced a new type of 4x4 and created a stylish and smart looking vehicle, that despite its size and weight handles and looks more like the four door coupe that it was designed around than a standard SUV.

Review of Wrangler Jeeps

Wrangler Jeeps have been manufactured since the late 1980’s in a number of different models. Popular models of Wrangler Jeeps for sale include the YJ as well as the TJ. The Wrangler Jeeps are the only light-duty vehicles offered in North America with solid axles front and rear. These axles are known for their durability due to their overall strength and lack of rubber boots to get torn on twigs and rocks. All Jeep Wranglers come standard with 4 wheel drive. The Wrangler Jeeps are also the only utility vehicle that has a removable top and doors.

The Wrangler YJ was manufactured from 1987 until 1995. These Wrangler Jeeps came with two distinct body styles: one was created as a two door convertible and the second vehicle was actually a two-door truck variant. Did You Ever Change Oil in an Old Vw Bug?

This old 1964 classic car was primer gray with a black driver's door and if you wanted to turn off the heat you had to go under the car and remove a flexible duct to stop the inflow because the controls inside the car were broken.

This classic car was quirky to the max!

I had a book that was popular to a certain extent in it's day written by John Muir - Volkswagen Guru called "How to keep your Volkswagen Alive - A Manual of Step by Step Procedures for the Compleat Idiot". That fit me pretty good because I was certainly close to a compleat idiot. Gotta' love the spelling of "compleat".

I read the book and began the process of changing my oil. On a VW Bug, you have to remove 5 bolts to get to a screen that acted like an oil filter and let the oil drain from there. There is no oil drain plug like a "regular" automobile.

The process takes a few minutes longer than a standard car but it's not a real pain at all and for a first timer, it was actually a rewarding experience.

That car died one day as I was driving to work... the engine caught fire. I'm assuming that a fuel line broke and spilled gas onto the hot engine. I stopped the car, grabbed a few things, hopped out and watched my 400.00 VW Beetle call it a day.

If that car was alive today it would be an antique classic for sure.

Defining an Antique Car

Having an old car can be a pretty neat experience. Everyone knows that certain older cars might be considered antiques or classics. But how is one to know which is which? It isn’t always easy, especially if you aren’t an especially extreme car lover. Determining if your car is an antique will require some time and research on your part. This is something that tends to be a little fuzzy around the edges and not always so clearly defined. Don’t be surprised if you turn up some conflicting information. Antique cars are not something that everyone agrees on.

The exact definition of an antique car tends to be a highly debated topic. The Classic Car Club of America states that an antique car is one that was manufactured before the year 1948. It is likely that you will come across sites and organizations that do not agree with this and instead have different years listed. If you need the information for insurance purposes then your best bet is to get the details directly from your insurance company. They will have their own regulations and specifications regarding what make your car considered an antique.

Most antique cars are considered to be those that were built before World War I. During the war auto production was brought to a halt and the manufacturing facilities were used to make war vehicles. Those cars made before the war are considered very rare today and many of them are worth millions of dollars due to that rarity. Of course the rareness of a certain model can directly affect if it is labeled as a classic or antique. Availability certainly does play a role in determining what makes a car antique.

There are many neat tidbits of information that comes from antique cars. Many people for instance do not know where the Mercedes received its name from. An Austrian man contracted Daimler to create a fleet of 30 cars for him. He wished them to be called Mercedes, which was the name of his own daughter. This is interesting since that name has once again become a common name for girls. Many don’t know that it started out that way all along.

The early designs of vehicles should be appreciated and respected regardless of their classic, vintage or antique status. They are the direct link to the cars we all love and drive today. The very first cars were nothing like modern day vehicles. They had no windshield and no safety features. It’s astounding to see the way the vehicle has evolved since the days of the original antiques.

It is important to note that a classic car and an antique one are not at all the same thing. They have differing definitions and are not grouped together. Classic cars tend to be sports or muscle cars from the 1950s to the 1970s. However, like antiques, the exact years seem to change depending on your source. Seek out a professional for an expert opinion on antique cars if you find these sources to be lacking.

The Vw Camper

VW Campers have become an iconic part of motor history. The first models went on sale in the early 1950’s, and since then people can’t seem to get enough of them. As well as being aesthetically appealing, these vans provide a perfect camping experience, with its large interior and comfortable living space. A VW camper can make your holiday, which is why it is such an iconic model today.

The first VW models started to sell in the early 1950’s. This model was called the Spilt-screened Kombi. True to its name, the bus has two screens instead of one, which was extremely fashionable at the time. This style of Camper has since become one of the most sought after vehicles, due to this model being replaced in 1968 with a single screen version. Because there are only a number of the Split-screened versions left, this Camper has become some what of a collector’s item. Due to its rarity and age, the Split-screened Kombi can be worth quite a lot of money.

The VW interior has played a big part of the van’s popularity. The van isn’t just a means of transport, but also as a place to live when you are on your travels. A standard VW Camper comes with fold out beds and chairs, a fold-away table, good storage space, a sink and electrical sockets (amongst other features). It is easy to see why the van is so appealing- you can make it into your own little home and customise it how you wish. There are also a range of extras which you can add to your van to make it even more like your own portable house. Extras such as air conditioning, a portable toilet and an attachable tent are also available.

The VW Camper has become a retro icon during recent times, probably due to its association with hippies in the late 1960’s. Many people now look to buy to restore them into their original forms, and then can live the culture that they created in the 60’s. You can also hire VW Camper vans, if you can’t afford your own, but you still wish to experience some of that iconic magic. The Volkswagen Camper is a fun and fantastic option if you are looking to go on a holiday which requires you to travel as well as find your own accommodation.

Future Classic Cars

Items from the past have a way of affecting those that come in the future. We are all familiar with various cars from the past that are now considered to be classics. But is it possible to determine which cars of today will go on to become future classics? It really is anyone's opinion but there are things that can be considered in order to form those opinions. An internet search will show that many people are casting their votes for future classics. There are a few that certainly stand out among the rest but really, only time will tell.

The Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is among the lists of many automotive experts taking their picks on the future. The Corvette is not new to many. It has been around for many years, earning its status as a must have automobile. This model is outstanding with an impressive 7.0 liter engine that is loaded with power. With 505 horsepower there will be no stopping this beast from racing into the history books. Though it may not be the type of car suited for family, day to day use that is part of its appeal. There is a good chance this car will become a collectible model within decades.

Another great product by GM is the Pontiac Solstice. This little car is exceptionally sleek in appearance and fun to drive. It's also not bad when it comes to using for daily summer driving. It makes a great convertible too. It does tend to be the type of car that you either love or hate, but so far it is loved enough that it is destined for the classics.

Most people may be surprised to hear that the Smart car is on many lists for future classic. However, that was the thought many once had towards the Beetle as well. The Smart car was designed to be fuel efficient, which it certainly is. The funky little design makes the quirky body style appealing to many on a physical level. Though certainly not for everybody, it does have a practicality that has to be admired.

The Audi S5 is a great model that is perfect for family use as well as riding in style. Audi has made many great vehicles over the years and this one is not so different. It is nice to look at and possesses all of the latest safety features. It has an affordability that not many comparable cars can claim. Though it is a coupe, it provides the kind of luxury and casual style that many seek in a daily driver.

True classic car fans will be eager to see the Mustang Shelby GT 500 KR hit the history books. It is a tribute to the legendary Carroll Shelby. With 540 horsepower, this car isn't fooling around. Mustang is one of the best known auto names in the world. It's likely this car could see classic status. Classics of the future are yet to be determined but regardless, they will be outstanding.

The Difference Between Classic And Vintage Cars

It is not always easy to determine if a vehicle is considered to be a vintage car or a classic one. The definitions seem to be changing all the time. A vintage car is usually considered to be any that was built from 1919 to 1930. However, the classic era seems to have crossed into the vintage, at least according to some experts. This can make defining the two tricky. Sometimes knowing the two are different is simply not enough information. If you have an older car and you need facts, you will want to do your homework.

The reason most people need to define their car as classic or vintage is for insurance purposes. You should always have insurance coverage on your vehicle. If anything were to happen to it you would otherwise have to pay for it out of your own pocket. And that's a chance that should never be taken with any old vehicle. Many insurance companies have a rule that the car must be at least 25 years old or older to be considered a classic. If the car is older than the 1930s it will likely be considered vintage. Of course some agencies even have a historical status for vehicles of certain ages so be sure to inquire fully.

Currently it seems that there is no concrete definition of a classic car. To some it is an old hotrod from the 1950s and for others it is the muscle cars of the 1970s. This term gets a little sticky because the definition seems to change with every person asked.

According to the Classic Car Club of America a classic automobile is any one that has been built between the years of 1925 and 1948. This is an indication of how drastically different the opinions are from resource to resource. That definition does apply to cars that were either domestic or foreign built. If you check out the club's website and find a car missing from their classic list that you feel should be there, you can actually petition the site to add it to their list. It doesn't mean that they will but it's certainly worth a try.

You will likely find that different organizations or car clubs will have their own definitions of vintage and classic cars. Many different factors affect these choices too such as the popularity of the car then and now as well as the make, model and historical value. For instance, models of vehicles that appeared on TV or in movies tend to have a higher ranking classic status than those that did not.

The rarity of the vehicle also may play a role in if it is classic or vintage. A car that is exceptionally rare will likely have a higher numerical value attached to it. This can affect what category it falls into. Do not stop searching for definitions at just one source. Compare and contrast them, form your own definition if need be based on what you find. A professional opinion is recommended for extremely valuable or rare vehicles.

Differences Between The 1964 And A Half Mustang And The 1965 Mustang

With all the confusion over differences between the 1964 and a half Mustang and the 1965 model it can be very tough to identify them. The issue is that all Mustangs from the very beginning of production back on March 9th of 1964 use the identifier "5," standing for the year 1965, in their VIN. Technically there is no "1964 Mustang" however collectors and enthusiasts refer to those cars built from March 9th to August 17th of 1964 of that year as "1964 and a half" Mustangs. Another variation is to call these cars "early 1965s" and the cars built after the above period "late 1965s."

As far as Ford is concerned they simply had roughly 18 months of production on the 1965 model. What's the big deal about the August 17 date? That was the day that Ford shut down the two Mustang plants (in Dearborn, MI. and San Jose, CA.) were shut down for retooling. It was at this point that most agree that anything that can be called a 1964 and a half Mustang stopped being produced and the 1965 Mustang production began.

The most glaring and easily recognizable change from before and after the retooling was the switch from a generator system to an alternator system. The real problems with identification come from the phasing in and out of various parts and components over several months. As the original parts used at the very beginning ran out they were replaced with more standardized versions after the "Great Retooling."

There is an issue when trying to determine exactly what a 1964 and a half really is. In fact some of the early 1965 models are assembled using some or many of the "early" 1964 parts. It can be confusing to say the least. There are, however, a few well accepted guidelines in determining year on these cars. (Either way, be prepare for a discussion when this comes up at the next car show.

When discussing this issue there are two sets or groups of parts that are talked about. These are generally referred to as "1964" or "early" parts, or those that were used at the beginning of production starting in March of '64, and "later parts" or those that came into use after the 1964 parts were exhausted. Keep in mind that some 1964 parts were used on some of the 1965 model year cars until the supply ran out.

A few of the very easiest differences to spot are handy to know when looking for a car to purchase or out at the local car show:

a) The first spot to look is at the corners of the cars hood at the front. The 1964 and a half Mustang had a beveled edge that set into a groove as opposed to the more finished looking "pinched" or "crimped" method use on the 1965 Mustang.

b) Passenger seats on the '64 were fixed, or in other words not meant to adjust or slide backwards and forward. The 1965 model had adjustable passenger seats.

c) The door locks are color keyed to the interior color of the car on the 1964 and while in the 1965 model they were chromed.

d) The gas tank cap will not have a holding wire on a '64 while it will on a 1965.

e) There are no Fastbacks that are considered 1964 and a half models. There may be a few of the early Fastbacks assembled with left over 1964 parts however it is widely accepted that Ford never built a Fastback prior to August 17th 1964.

f) The pedals on the 1964 were not made to accept a metal trim piece and therefore will not have the indentations around the edge you'll see on the 1965's.

g) The rule is a Mustang with the D, F, or U engine designation is considered a definite 1964 model. Those with engine codes of either C or K were used in the 1964 and 1965 model so are of little use in identifying.

h) The '64 and 's had a center position off switch for the heater.

These are just some of the most obvious, easily seen and most accepted differences between the 1964 and a half Mustang and the 1965. It's an interesting bit of automobile history and a lot of fun to look into.

1965 Mustang Shelby Gt

With the introduction of the Ford Mustang in the middle of 1964 there was a nation wide sensation. This was of course due to the nature of the car design however the manner in which the media was handled and the marketing blitz that took place before, during, and after the official launch. A huge turnout in positive newspaper reviews, numbering the thousands, and an appearance as the Official Pace Car of the 1964 Indianapolis 500 coupled with an attractive purchase price of around $2,300 launched the Mustang into the American automotive limelight.

1965 was the first full official year of production of the Mustang. In addition to the primary Coupe design several variations on this model were available on the 1965 Mustang. For example Ford introduced a Fastback model for the Mustang that year to augment the existing hardtop coupe and the convertible. Two famous variations on the Mustang appeared in 1965 as well. The famed Shelby Mustang first appeared at this time. A Shelby Mustang in 1956 was a Fastback model with no rear seat. The spare tire was located in the back in the area of the rear window and the gas tank flap had the Mustang icon on it. They also added some more power to the 289 engine getting it up to a 306. The second variation was the 1965 Mustang GT introduced in the second quarter of that year and at a cost an additional $165! The GT option was available on the coupe, convertible or fastback models and came with a few variations of its own. As for the power train there was a choice between a 225 horsepower or a 271 horsepower V-8 engine.

Another choice to be made was between a three or four speed manual transmission or an automatic transmission called the Cruise-O-Matic. All GT packages came with an upgraded instrument group, striping on the lower part of the body sides. Finished out with "GT" badges on the front fenders, large fog lights mounted inside the front grill and a dual exhaust the 1965 Mustang GT really stood out! While the Shelby and GT packages got a lot of attention during 1965 the coupe body style was what really sold. The Ford Motor Company had first anticipated sales of the 1965 Mustang to be some where around the 100,000 and let's just say they sold a few more than that!

The Mustang was produced to compete in the emerging muscle car segment at the time. While it's the main competition the 1960's were such cars as General Motors Camaro and Chryslers Barracuda the Ford Mustang is the only muscle car from that era that has seen a continuous production run. While this early Mustang earned wide acclaim and several recognitions perhaps the most memorable is the Tiffany Medal. Tiffany & Co. presented a medal each year for excellence in American design and the 1965 Mustang was the very first automobile ever to win this award. This Mustang remains a true favorite in the eyes of casual fans and collectors alike. With the emergence of many Mustang oriented car clubs, the growing population of Car Auctions on television and an overall increasing interest in classic cars the 1965 Mustang is sure to remain an American icon for generations to come.

Antique classic cars

There are several examples of classic cars in America, some of the most popular are:

Ford Mustang, Dodge Charger. Chevrolet Impala, Chevrolet Chevelle, BMW 3 Series, Bentley Turbo R, and Volkswagen Beetle.

Classis cars captivate people from all ages; they are somehow part of the 20th Century history. Car shows and exhibitions are held throughout the world where classic cars enthusiasts reunite to exhibit their jewels.

When built, cars are not meant to be a classic, time and people are the two key factors when deciding what becomes a classic and what does not. American culture has given classic cars a new meaning. Restorations worth tens of thousands of dollars and paint jobs that resemble a brand new car, and chromed engines, are just part of the investment that classic cars enthusiasts perform to maintain their jewels flawless.

One famous classic car collector is NBC’s former star on ‘The tonight show’ Jay Leno. He does not only collect classic cars, but also classic motorcycles. His cars range from the early 1900’s to modern masterpieces.

Classic car auctions take place al over the United States, these auctions are the perfect place to find rare pieces as well as bargains; television broadcasts take place from time to time, representative of the love and admiration that the American society has given to the classic cars move.

Owning a classic car in not cheap, for starters, classic cars need a lot of maintenance, the cars should always be kept clean and away from direct sunlight to avoid damages in the paint job, tires for classic cars are always a details that should not go unattended, and some sets of tires can cost up to $5,000.00 USD. Transportation to car shows is also expensive whether if it is via air or ground.

One of the most important pieces of the car and most of the times, the most expensive, is the engine. When we talk about classic cars and engines, you better take your check book with you, not every engine can be placed in every car, moreover, the engine that will be placed in a classic car must be chromed and have state-of-the-art components, and that costs money. That is why you will often find celebrities whose hobby is collecting classic cars, and who could blame them? They have the money to do it!

Classic cars are here to stay, so next time you see one of these jewels down the street, stop and admire the fine piece of art and the culture on wheels. In case you want to check more about this topic, try to visit www.antique-classiccars.com

Restore Your Vintage Car

Restoration of any kind is an exceptionally difficult and time consuming job. It certainly does have benefits though. The restoration of a vintage car demands plenty of commitment and perseverance. It is a long task that could take years to complete so you certainly must have a lot of staying power. This is the type of job that is perfect for a small group or a pair of friends to do together. Having more hands could help the job significantly as it will achieve more in far less time. There is a lot involved in the restoration of vintage cars but it is not without rewards.

When it comes to replacing or repairing parts for your vintage car, seek out a place that stores old cars or the parts from them. There are many places like this that specialize in the collection of cars when they are disposed of. This is always a good place to get started in your search for parts or components related to the type of car you are trying to restore. Do a Google search for those that are located in your area. Call around and ask if they have anything that matches the make, year and model of your old car. In many cases you will be able to have items shipped if they are outside of your local area.

If you are very new to car restoration then perhaps you would be interested in having a professional restoration company do it for you or help you out with certain tasks or repairs. This type of service can become quite costly so shop around for the best price possible. Some of them will only agree if they are taking on the whole job, not just part of it, so keep this in mind.

Do not make the mistake of cutting corners when restoring a vintage car. Doing everything the cheapest way may not be the best idea. Not only do you want the car to look great when it’s finished, you also want it to work properly. Use quality parts that are designed for use in that type of vehicle. It could save you a lot of trouble and repair costs later. It also does not hurt to look up some helpful tips online for dealing with things like rust removal. You can discover plenty of ways to save time while working faster with an online search.

Try to keep everything as original as possible. There may be some parts used on the car that are not as old as the car is but when it comes to most things, paint being one of them, you need to match the era. If you use new paint only found on models from this decade, it will greatly rob your vintage car of the effect you wish to have. Check out restoration magazines and websites during this process. They will assist you greatly as you go. When restoring your vintage car it is essential that you do it correctly in order to retain the value and the significance of the vehicle.

Proper Antique Car Storage

The storage of your valuables directly affects the kind of condition they are in come the future. Antique cars are items that need to be stored with strict care and maintenance. It’s not enough to throw a car cover over top and leave it for years on end. That kind of activity will only help to age your car and cause it to deteriorate. Classic and vintage cars grow rarer all the time. If you have one in your care, it’s important to treat it like the piece of history that it really is.

Your classic car should be detailed regularly, even when sitting in storage. It does not take long for dust and dirt to build up and stick to the paint. Cleaning both inside and outside is strongly recommended. Use only products that are specified for cars and indicate that they are safe on all automotive surfaces. A wax job before the car goes into storage is always a good idea. Good wax can protect the paint by coating it with a wax layer that prevents dirt and other things from bonding to your paint. It is one of the best ways to care for your antique car at all times, when stored or when in use.

If the car will be in storage for an extended amount of time, it is suggested that you always drain the fluids out of the car. Contaminants can settle in the fluid and it will grow thick and sluggish over time. Drain it all out before storing your classic car, then refill with all fresh fluids if you decide to drive it again or use it in a car show.

Mice can be a problem for some cars that are left in storage. You need to do all that you can to prevent the annoying little critters from getting into your car. They chew on things and leave waste behind. There is no end to the damage that can be caused by mice. Use a storage facility that guarantees a mouse free storage space or take necessary precautions yourself. Sometimes something as simple as a strong scented Bounce dryer sheet will keep them away.

Crack the windows open before you store your antique car. It will prevent humidity from building up inside the car. Proper ventilation and airflow will make a noticeable difference next time you open the car door. It also prevents moisture from accumulating inside which can lead to mould growth. That is a very serious type of problem.

Proper storage is essential. Choose car covers that are made for storage. Covers should be made of material that allows for proper air circulation. If possible, storing the car up off the ground on the back of a trailer is also a good idea. Make sure that nobody has access to your car except for you and anyone that you designate. Antique cars are rare but they have a wealth of history behind them. Do what is necessary to preserve yours so that time does not become the enemy.

Selling a Classic Car

planning and preparation. It is unlikely that you will feel comfortable selling to the first person that comes along. It may also be difficult finding a potential buyer, depending on your location and circumstances. There are many great ways to increase your chances of selling your classic car. There tend to be more resources available to sellers than many people realize. It’s a matter of discovering what will benefit you most as a seller and making it work for you.

Many classic cars fall into an unkempt state over the years if they are not properly stored or maintained. If the classic car you wish to sell is not in the best of shape, you may have to decide if you want to sell it as a whole or for parts instead. Many classic car owners are continually seeking replacement parts for their older cars so this may be a good way to unload your automobile. Of course, getting rid of the entire car all at once is much faster and tends to be preferable to most automotive sellers.

Start taking out some ads in places where car enthusiasts are likely to come across it. Try looking up classic car magazines both in print and online. Quite often these publications have a classified ad section where you can post your car for sale. Sometimes these ad spaces are free or they may require a small fee. Do not bother with ad spaces that cost a substantial amount unless they give you some form of guarantee. It just is not generally worth it.

There are a few very popular classified ad sites that are known for having a high amount of traffic. Craigslist.org is one of these sites where you can list your classic car for sale. Kijiji.com is another. Both of these sites allow you to choose your country and city so that the ad is placed appropriately. You need to always use these sites with caution though. They are known for scam artists so be careful when it comes to dealing with people through those sites.

If the classic car that you are trying to sell is still in decent driving condition, one of the best ways to sell it is by driving it around. Put up a sign in the window which alerts the public to the sale of the car. This is a great way to spread the word, simply by going for a drive. Also, if any car shows come to town that is also a perfect place for taking your classic car in order to advertise that it is for sale.

It certainly never hurts to ask local mechanics or auto shop owners if they are interested or if they would be willing to post up a flyer for you in case their customers are interested. There are many ways to appeal to car buyers. Make use of them and you will find a buyer in no time.

Top 5 Things to Consider When Motorcycle Jumping

Motorcycle jumping seems to becoming more popular among adrenaline junkies these days. That amazing rush that you feel when you get your motorcycle to fly through the air has those both young and old giving it a try. However motorcycle jumping is quite dangerous, and before you decide to give it a whirl, there are a few things that you should take into consideration to ensure you are as safe as you can be.

1. Experience

Do you have any experience motorcycle jumping? For that matter, do you have any experience at all with riding a motorcycle? Riding a motorcycle takes practice within itself. Before you start motorcycle jumping, you should make sure that you are completely comfortable with riding a motorcycle before you start trying to jump it.

2. The Motorcycle

Not all motorcycles can be used for jumping. Small motorcycles, such as sportsters, can often be used for jumping, while larger motorcycles should be avoided. There are many bikes that are made for motorcycle jumping that you can look into getting.

3. Practice

You definitely don't want to think about jumping over a line of cars your first go round. If you've never jumped a motorcycle before, you will need to practice. Setting up small ramps is the best way to begin. Keep in mind, for many people it's not the actual motorcycle jumping that they have a hard time with, it's the landing. Start with a small ramp and get the feel of how to go up and off the ramp. Then work on your landings. You want to be able to come in smoothly upon impact before you start moving towards bigger jumping ramps.

4. Location

It's probably not a very good idea to set up your first ramps in the middle of your neighborhood street. Not only is this a bad idea because you will have to combat traffic, but if you loose control of your bike, you may end up hitting an innocent bystander that has come to watch. And of course, let's not forget the fact that should you loose control your first few jumps, you're going to end up with a nasty case of road rash from the asphalt. It's best to set up your ramps in a remote location, away from people and other traffic.

5. Safety

Safety is the number one thing you need to consider when motorcycle jumping. Make sure that you have all the necessary safety equipment that you need. Even though it may not make you look too cool, outfit yourself with a helmet, kneepads, elbow pads, etc. While you may not think you look cool all decked out in your safety gear, I assure you that you'll look a lot worse if you get hurt and didn't have that safety gear on! It's also important to make sure that those around you practice and enforce safety. Do not allow people to stand too close to your jumping area, and if possible avoid having small children watching since they can too easily get in the way and get hurt.

Agv Helmets: the Choice of Champions

With over sixty years of experience in design, AGV helmets are the preferred choice of those who take motorcycling racing seriously. Founded in 1947 by Amisano Gino Valenza, the company began by manufacturing leather seats and motorcycle saddles. Today, they are revered for developing motorcycle helmets that place a heavy emphasis on safety and protection. With AGV, the rider’s well being is the focus and AGV helmets bear that fact by its design. Made popular by Valentino Rossi, the Italian motorcycle champion who has worn AGV helmets since the beginning of his career, AGV helmets are now the helmets selected by champions. This has also led to the incredible focus on engineering and design in what has resulted in the line of Rossi AGV helmets. There is no doubt that the Rossi AVG helmets are the most sought after in the motorcycle market.

Valentino Rossi is not the first champion to wear AGV helmets. Other famous racers include Giacomo Agostini, Niki Lauda, Angel Nietor, Barry Sheene, Emerson Fittipaldi, Nelson Piquet, and Wayne Ryney. However, it is definitely the allure and signature name of Valentino Rossi for which AGV helmets are often associated. The AGV GP-Tech helmet line that has been designed for high performance racing evidences this. In fact, it was Valentino Rossi who also helped design the GP-Tech. The shell is crafted from what is known as “SSl” or Super Super Light Carbon Kevlar, ensuring that it provides maximum comfort. Not only is the shell lightweight and comfortable, but it is also the first in the line of AGV helmets that has three interchangeable shell sizes. This ensures that everyone can utilize the GP-Tech.

Additionally, the GP Tech AGV helmets also come with an integrated ventilation system or IVS, providing maximum breathability for the wearer. This is accomplished by using vents. In fact, the makers of the helmet take its design so seriously; the IVS system has been aerodynamically tested, ensuring that it is the highest quality helmet on the market.

The color choices for the GP Tech AGV helmets are vast and you’re sure to look cool while racing on your bike. Sleek designs, multi colors, or solid color helmets ensure that there is a helmet for every rider’s style. The color choices include Combat Blue, Combat Red, Tech Black, and Tech Gunmetal.

In addition to the design qualities the GP Tech AGV helmets also feature a liner that is easily removed and machine-washed. This ensures that your helmet stays sanitary and hygienic. The neck roll is also easily removed and washed and the fabrics have been treated with a specific formula that helps prevent build up from humidity and sweat. The fabric also helps keep the helmet cool while the vent system ensures that moisture is easily removed. There are more AGV helmets then the GP Tech line. Other popular lines include the AGV Air Tech, the AGV S4, AGV Stealth, and the AGV Ti- Evolution.

Motorcycle Lifts: Air or Hydraulic

Motorcycle Lifts can be a life saver in the event of a move. If you have to put your motorcycle on a transport trailer, or on the back of a truck, it is much easier to use a lift then it is to find a ramp and try to manually drive it up the ramp, or push it up the ramp. So what type of motorcycle lifts are better?

1. Ease of use

When choosing motorcycle lifts, one of the first things to think of is how easy it is to use. No one wants something that is going to more trouble then it is worth. Air motorcycle lifts use air pressure to lift it off the ground. Some lifts make it easier on the consumer by making foot pedals, but either way, the user is using muscle and manual power. Hydraulic lifts are much more convenient. They run on their own power and use little to no manual power to work. Hydraulic motorcycle lifts are much less physically demanding on the user. If ease of use is more important to you then hydraulic lifts may be what you are looking for.

2. Cost of device

The more convenient motorcycle lifts are, the more they cost. Air lifts are much more cost effective then hydraulic motorcycle lifts. While you pay more for ease of use, you also pay for convenience. Both air and hydraulic lifts are convenient for a motorcycle enthusiast. If you are repairing your motorcycle and have it taken apart where it cannot move on its own power, then motorcycle lifts allow you to move it around the shop with as much ease as if you were pushing a shopping cart. Either way, the convenience far outweighs the cost for someone who is constantly moving a motorcycle.

3. Construction

The better constructed motorcycle lifts are, the more it will cost. The lifts with the best reputations are constructed much better than the lifts from other manufacturers. While the lighter lifts and the motorcycle lifts that are more compact may be better on space, and more convenient for storage, the heavier more sturdy models do cost more. Heavier, more structurally sound lifts can cost more, but be safer then the lighter lifts.

4. Aesthetics

Everyone knows the prettier something is, the more it will cost. Whether it is air lifts or hydraulic ifts, the better it looks, the more colorful, the more pleasing to the eye it is the more it will cost. While pretty motorcycle lifts do not mean they work better, many people want the prettier design to liven up a shop or work space. Motorcycle lifts that look better naturally sell better. What are you willing to pay for? Do you want to pay for the pretty colored paint? Do you want to pay for the shinier chrome lifts? Are aesthetics an important part of your buying decision? What feature on motorcycle lifts makes it a more desirable purchase?

4 Things That Turn Girls with Motorcycles into Motorcycle Babes

It takes more then just a fancy motorcycle to be motorcycle babes. Just having a motorcycle does not turn girls with motorcycles into motorcycle babes. So what does?

1. Love of Motorcycles

Motorcycle babes do not have motorcycles just to be noticed. They are not doing for the attention they get from it nor are they doing it because it is the "cool" thing to do. If you are a woman with a motorcycle and you are just doing it because it looks good and because you get noticed, you have not reached the status of motorcycle babes. True motorcycle babes would ride a motorcycle even if there was no one around to notice them. motorcycle babes are the ones that know the difference between a liquid cooled engine and an air cooled engine. Motorcycle babes could change a tire, customize their handlebars, and add a backrest without blinking an eye.

2. Confidence

Motorcycle babes exude confidence. They do not need someone standing there staring and gawking at them to feel beautiful and alive and full of energy and enthusiasm. Unlike so many photos and stereo types, motorcycle babes can be more then just the supermodel standing in front of the Kawasaki in daisy dukes and a tight tank top bending over pretending to inspect the tire. They can also be more then the other image of the butch woman who is more manly then the bikers she rides with. Motorcycle babes can be short, tall, thin, full figured, young or old. Motorcycle babes is the whole package, not just what you see. Motorcycle babes feel comfortable in both jeans and dresses. They can go out with their hair in a ponytail with no make up and not care who sees them.

3. Self Worth

Motorcycle babes know that they are worth more then a compromising position in front or on that Honda motorcycle. Real motorcycle babes have children and jobs that don't involve skimpy clothes. That is not to say that those models who pose half naked in front of the motorcycles can't be real motorcycle babes, if they know there is more to who they are then guys gawking at them drooling half at them and half at the motorcycles that accompany them. Motorcycle babes know that even without the motorcycle they are someone. Motorcycle babes know that even though they don't need the bike to be noticed, they deserve the bike.

4. Thrill seekers

Real motorcycle babes are thrill seekers. They love the feel of the motorcycle under them riding down the highway. They aren't afraid of spreading their wings. When motorcycle babes are going down the highway they can feel the wind flapping all around them, they feel like they are flying. There is nothing better then knowing that you have complete control over this machine that has more power then any one person should possess. The vibrations from the motor and the curves in the road go through your entire body. Motorcycle babes feel alive.

The Top 6 Reasons to Get New Motorcycle Tires

Motorcycle tires are very important on your motorcycle. They are one of the few things that comes between you and the road in the event of an emergency stop. They also keep you from hydroplaning in wet conditions, and can keep you comfortable on that long trip. So how do you know if you need new tires?

1. Hole or Leak

This probably seems like a very obvious choice, but sometimes you have to state the obvious. It is possible to just plug a hole, but this should be done from the inside out, not the outside in. When you plug a tire from the outside in, motorcycle tires have a tendency to lose the plug. While this doesn't always happen, it is safer to plug from the inside out.

2. Worn sidewall

This also seems like an obvious one, but to someone who is new to the motorcycle game, motorcycle tires can be confusing. They are not the same as the motorcycle tires on a car. The sidewall can get worn for several reason. One of the top reasons for a worn sidewall is that the driver is leaning awkwardly. If you are not leaning and you still notice unusual wear in your sidewall, it might be in your best interest to verify this with a mechanic.

3.Wearing tread

How can you tell if there is little tread grooves on the tires? If you can stick a penny in with Lincoln's head down and the top of the head can still be seen after sticking it in the groove, then you probably need new tires. Tread is what makes it possible to stop in wet weather, the grooves move water away from the center of the motorcycle tires so that the motorcycle tires can get a better grip on the road.

4. Age of tires

Motorcycle tires can degrade and erode with age. Just because you have a motorcycle sitting in a storage room for ten years, does not bean that the motorcycle tires are still in good condition. If the rubber is soft, chances are the material used to make the motorcycle tires has become worn after ten years.

5. Mileage

The harder the rubber on the tire the longer the motorcycle tires will last. In contrast, the softer the rubber is on the tire, the better the traction on the road. If you want more mileage, get harder tires, if you want better traction, get softer tires. Both types of motorcycle tires has its advantages. Traction means quicker stops and better turns. More mileage means less money paid out for new tires.

6. PSI on tires

To increase the life of the motorcycle tires, remember to check your tires on a regular basis. If you consistently keep your PSI lower then directed by the manufacturer, chances are you will wear out your tire, your tread, or your sidewalls. The longer you can keep the tread and sidewalls in good condition the longer your tires will last.

Is Choppers Only for the Big Guys?

Motorcycles have been in vogue for a long time. They are heavy machines which are rugged and heavy. Men have always liked riding motorcycles. Choppers - a type of motorcycle, has have been in existence since the end of the Second World War.

Why did the choppers come into existence? Soldiers who fought in the Second World War were used to light motorcycles in Britain. They were fun to ride. They were dissatisfied Harley-Davidson, the company which manufactured heavy motorbikes. They wanted something different. They made changes by removing certain parts that were heavy and which made it look big and ugly. Fenders, front brakes, windshields and turn indicators were removed. The saddle was originally large and was made small. The whole bike was made convenient for dirt racing. The handle bars were higher than before. The front tire was thinner and the back fatter. The large foot rest, petrol tank and head light were made much smaller. They were generally made of black or shiny metal. Their seats were low but the pillion seat was much higher than that of the driver's. Some even removed the batteries and had a magneto to reduce the weight of the bike.

The bike was transformed from the original. Not everyone had the same type of bike. It could be custom made by the small shops that had sprung up, to satisfy each person's needs. They did not want to leave the Harley-Davidson model. They changed the original in such a way that it was a much lighter and fun bike to ride. These bikes are the choppers.

The main aim was to get a rugged bike like Harley-Davidson and chop off all the bulky parts and remove, fit and weld lighter parts. This made the bike lighter, faster and more maneuverable. These choppers are now being made by big companies also. This was initially the work of small motor bike shops which put together the various parts that the customer wanted. So, it was custom made. Now many varieties of choppers are made by companies that are the big manufacturers.

These bikes also have to be built according to a set of rules. They should be roadworthy and should be such that though the choppers are not heavy, they should be strong enough for using on roads. In the United States the custom made choppers are given license to be used on the highway. Not many countries give them this license.

Choppers are now used the world over. Some prefer using British or Japanese engines. These bikes are not restricted to be used by the big, burly, hefty guys. Although war veterans and others were involved in its making, these bikes are used by anyone who loves bikes. The different shape and the size makes it great fun to drive these bikes. Since choppers are manufactured the world over, all types of people, big and small, use these custom made choppers.

The choppers are mainly for their shape, size and speed. Its shape can be custom made to suit anyone's needs. So, it is not necessary that only big guys can ride it. Although the ride can be risky, the high speeds definitely thrill the youngsters who love their choppers. Anyone interested in riding the chopper can do so.

Preparing Your Scooter For Painting

After buying you custom painting manual guide, tools, paint and equipments, the next job is to dismantle the scooter. First start dismantling your scooter with utmost accuracy. While dismantling the scooter, you should be very careful with wires attached to the scooter.

Dismantling scooter is not very difficult, if you do it according to the custom painting manual guide. Remove only those parts from scooter, which you want to re-paint, as most of the people remove each and every part from the scooter and find it difficult to assemble it later.

You should remember while dismantling your scooter, that you have to assemble it. By using the basic tools kit, you can easily dismantle or assemble your scooter. You should collect all the big or small parts of your scooter very carefully at the time of dismantling your scooter.

Sanding.

Sanding is done to remove the old paint from the dismantled parts of scooter and to give smooth and silky surface to paint. The process of sanding is done by using sand papers. Generally, there are two types of sand paper used in sanding process of scooters, first is rough sandpaper and second is fine sandpaper. Rough sandpaper is used to remove the old paint from the scooter and fine sandpaper is used to give smooth surface for the new paint.

If the old paint is remain on the scooter then it might cause problem with the new paint. Therefore, sanding is very important before you start painting your scooter. Never try to avoid sanding because it is very important for the long lasting shine and grace of new paint.

Sanding your scooter.

Sanding a scooter doesn't need any specialized knowledge or skill. You must be careful while choosing the correct thickness of the sand paper (rough sandpaper and fine sandpaper).

Sand papers with grit form 600 to 1000 can be used, depending upon the roughness of your scooter. 600 grit sand papers are used for the rough surface i.e. to remove the old paint. 1000 grit sand papers are used for fine finishing of the scooter.

Although sanding is not a specialized job, but you have to be expert in judging the smoothness of the surface on which you are going to paint. When you are going for scooter sanding, you should be well prepared, as the people who perform such jobs are regularly exposed to dust (powder of old paint). Chances of getting dust in the eye and throat are very common.

Therefore, your must wear the safety equipments. Swallowing these powders sometimes might leads to lung cancer.

For the final finishing of your scooter, it is recommended to use 200 grit sanding paper. Smooth and sparkling surface of the scooter is the reward of proper sanding. Use 1200 grit wet and dry sand paper if you want to paint a metallic color on your scooter.

Chemical stripper for sanding.

If you find it difficult to remove the old paint of your scooter with a sand paper, then you can also use chemical stripper. Apply the paint stripper very carefully all over the scooter with a paint brush.

Chemical stripper can affect your skin badly. Therefore, you must wear safety equipments while applying chemical stripper on your scooter.

How to apply chemical stripper.

You should cover all the parts of your scooter, which you want to paint, with clear plastic sheet (available from any hardware shop), so the vapors will be trapped inside and will work more rapidly on the scooter. After covering the scooter parts with the plastic sheet, than wait for the 2 to 3 hours and remove the plastic sheet.

Now you can start to scrape off the old paint from the scooter with a putty knife or a paint scraper. After applying stripping chemical on the scooter parts and keep the water away from these parts. If necessary, use the stripping chemical again.

Never use the chemical stripper to remove the old paint from the scooter part, as it can affect the body (metal) of your scooter. Therefore, sanding by sand paper is the best and simple way to remove old paint from scooter.

Wash the parts before you start painting.

After the sanding process, wash each and every part. Washing is necessary and important to remove the sanding powder which is left after the sanding process.

There are some people who jump from sanding directly on to the base coat and might suffer later, as if you start with base coating without washing it, then after completing the first base coat, you will find small particles on it. Therefore, wash gently all the parts before you start painting.

For washing purpose, you can use any common soap or dishwashing detergents which are commonly available in the market. You can also use a scrub or a hard brush with these soap or detergent. A scrub or a hard brush will also remove the old paint left during the sanding process.

You can also use cleaner to wash scooter, but never use any strong and chemically reacting cleaner which can damage the body (metal) of your scooter by starting the rusting process. These types of chemical cleaners contain a chemical irritant which is known as Ethylene Glycol Monobutyl Ether.

Therefore, it is recommended to use common soap or dishwashing detergent to wash your scooter before painting.

Synthetic Motorcycle Oil - Your Best Protection

Motorcycles are as equally deserving of high-quality lubricants as automobiles. In fact, many motorcycle engines operate at up to 10 000 revolutions per minute – almost double that of a typical motor in a passenger car. At these types of speeds, the stresses in an engine are extremely high, and it is important to choose the right oil to protect internal components.

Synthetic motorcycle oil can really go a long way towards protecting your engine, chain case and transmission. Since most motorcycles are pleasure vehicles that are not driven every day, or not usually driven for extended periods, the amount of time a bike spends parked means that motorcycles are particularly prone to rust issues resulting from storage. Humid conditions can also accelerate the formation of rust, leading to corrosion in the engine and on the chain. Many people assume that since their engine and chain are oiled that they are protected against this type of damage, but in order for an oil to provide maximum protection against corrosion, it must contain special additives which are designed to coat and protect at all times. Synthetic motorcycle oil is specifically formulated with these additives.

Aside from the stress of high-engine rpm’s, the most damage done to a typical motorcycle engine is during cold startup. When a bike’s engine has been sitting overnight, all of the engine oil drains down out of the motor and into the oil pan. This means that for a few crucial moments on startup, the engine is rotating without any protection from oil. Of course, engine builders realize this and all motors are designed to achieve necessary oil pressure and coverage almost immediately after ignition. However, the type of oil being used can play a significant role in terms of how fast that actually occurs. Synthetic motorcycle oil is less prone to reduced viscosity in low temperatures, meaning that it does not thicken up and flow less while cold. This allows it to move faster through your motor on start-up and begin protecting engine components before standard motor oil would be able to achieve optimal viscosity.
When choosing a motorcycle lubricant, each of these issues needs to be considered. When parking a bike for the week after a weekend of hard riding, the peace of mind that everything will be ready to go when you hit the starter next Friday is priceless. Synthetic oil is the key to getting the maximum life and pleasure out of a motorcycle.

3 Famous Custom Motorcycles Owned By Celebrities

Motorcycles have long since been associated with the crazy and daring stunts performed on them by some of the most daring riders in the history of motorcycle riding. Some of the most memorable moments in history involved custom motorcycles and daredevil stunts that people are sure to remember. Here are three of the most famous custom motorcycles and the daredevil stunts they inspired.

1. 1972 Harley Davidson XR750

If these custom motorcycles sound familiar, they should. These bikes were made famous by none other than the most widely known motorcycle stunt rider, Evel Knievel. This XR750 was almost identical to the 1970 XR 750, with one crucial difference. Instead of being iron barrel, it was aluminum alloy. Evel Knievel used these custom motorcycles for many jumps and these light, only about 300 pounds, custom motorcycles made breaking records easy for Evel Knievel. Every one recognizes the stars on Evel Knievel's cape and the matching ones on the custom motorcycles seat of his bikes.

2. 1949 CZ

This was a Czechoslovakian motorcycle, literally the ceska zbrojowka, which translates to mean weapon factory in English. These custom motorcycles were made famous by the brilliant actor James Dean, who is most famous for his role in the smash hit 'Rebel Without a Cause'. The 1948 model of the CZ was the first series of 350 ccs. It used the same frame as the 250 cc model. The motor of the 1949 CZ owned by James Dean had flat pistons, reverse flow, and a 358 cc capacity. Though James Dean died at the young age of 24, his memory has never been stronger. James Dean also had another brand of custom motorcycles. He had a British Triumph T 110 customized with "Dean's Dilemma" on the side of it. Though he is known for his role in 'Rebel Without a Cause' and that had no motorcycle in it, he is also frequently pictured atop his motorcycle with a cigarette hanging out of the corner of his mouth.

3. 1963 Desert Triumph

This famous motorcycle was owned by world renowned tough guy actor, Steve McQueen (The Great Escape, The Magnificent Seven, Bullit). These custom motorcycles were 500 cc off road motorcycles. Apparently, Steve McQueen and Dennis Hopper pulled over to the side of the road to watch a couple of other guys on bikes. After seeing them, he rushed right out and bought his very own triumph.

How To Maintain Your Motorcycle

If you have a motorcycle of your own there are some things you should check on a regular basis. Routine maintenance is important for your safety as well as for the safety of others on the road. If you don't have a handbook with specs on your motorcycle, you should try to get one. If that is not possible, you should try to find some information about your motorcycle on the web. There are also workshop manuals available for various models that you can find in auto shops or on the internet. Many of these manuals are available in the form of a CD or DVD.

Keeping up with maintenance on your car is very different from maintaining your motorcycle. You may be able to get by with neglecting some minor things on your car, but with a motorcycle no maintenance aspect is minor. It is unwise to neglect any maintenance detail.

Things you should check daily on your motorcycle

Tires - Make sure both the tires are in good condition.

Tire pressure- It is extremely important to keep tire pressure on or very close to spec.

Oil level - you should always check the oil with the bike on a level ground.

Brakes - check to make sure the brakes are functioning properly.

Lights - All lights should be checked, especially the brake light.

Chain - Check the tension of the chain and make sure it is lubricated well.

Things to check periodically on your motorcycle

Check battery - Make sure all the connections are tight. Also check the electrolyte level on batteries if necessary.

Wheel bearings - Check wheel bearings by grabbing each wheel with it off the ground and see if there is any sideways play.

Swinging arm bearings - Check this with the back wheel off the ground, check for any sideways movement in the swingarm, there should not be any.

Brakes - Check the fluid levels, brake hoses for deterioration, and pads/shoes for thickness.

Cables and levers - These should operate smoothly. You should use a cable oiler to help keep these parts well lubricated.

Nut and bolts - You should go all round the motorcycle with your spanners and check that all nuts, bolts and screws are tight.

The suggestions made here are for basic maintenance. Other larger jobs would obviously have to be done by a mechanic. It is a good idea to have a mechanic check for routine maintenance at least once or twice a year just in case you miss something in your routine maintenance.

Wax Coating Your Chopper Motorcycle

It is time to think of wax coating, once you are satisfied with the condition of the paint of your motorcycle, now start the wax coating. Wax coating helps to preserve the paint as it contains some oils which decrease the rust or oxidation. Wax coating also protects the paint of your chopper motorcycle from natural risks such as dung of the birds, sap from the tree, smog and the ultraviolet rays of the sun. Wax coating gives the strength, shiny finish and richness to the paint. Therefore wax coating is very essential.

There Are Three Different Types Of Waxes:

1. Liquid Wax
2. Paste Wax
3. Spray Wax

The liquid wax coating is very easy, but commercial automotive liquid wax is not as durable as paste wax. You can choose a natural wax, such as Carnauba. Carnauba is a tree which is harvested in Brazil, and its leaves are used in wax. Wax with a high carnauba contents is the best. You can view the carnauba contents in any wax (liquid, paste and spray) by going though its label.

Avoid the use of spray wax coating on your motorcycle, as it is too thin as compare to liquid and paste waxes. It is recommended to have two medium applications of wax rather than a single heavy one. Rectangular applicators are quite better that round applicators kitchen sponge. If you are using regularly sponge to wax your chopper motorcycle’s paint finish, then you are doing a right thing as it will improve the inherent beauty of the paint. It can protect the paint from the perils of the surroundings and regular riding, and keep your bike looking its best.

Wax coating is not only important, it is very necessary. Some people avoid wax coating and their finish will absolutely suffer from the neglect. Therefore, wax coating is very necessary.

Synthetic wax popularity is growing rapidly as a commercial automotive for motorcycles. Synthetic wax seals off the painted surface with a wall that can last for 9 months, with the very best blends. The synthetics are very clear and shine transparent, therefore it can also achieve a mock Carnauba shines.

Things to Keep in Mind while applying Wax Coating

Wax coating is done in similar way as the base and final coating, in a linear back and forward motion following the shape of the surface. This avoids print swirl marks into the finish.

You can use your fingers as the applicator to apply the wax on your chopper motorcycle. This will allow you to detect any clench or rough particles before you end your painting job.

Wash your hands with after applying wax coating.

During your painting job, always try to use approved cleaners and waxes. Non-approved cleaners may work very effectively for removing road tar but these are able to remove or dull the paint of your chopper motorcycle.

Avoid regular contact (rubbing) with any cloth or towel on your recently painted motorcycle.

We hope all the above information helps in the maintenance of your bike, watch out for more articles on looking after your Chopper Bike

Motorcycle Service: Professionals vs. Do-it-Yourselfers

Your motorcycle has just broken down, and you need someone to fix it. As a result, you are faced with two choices. Dealing with a do-it-yourselfer who will charge a very low rate or making use of a professional motorcycle service. How do you decide which one is best for your situation, when you are on a limited budget?

Well, if the problem is minor, a do-it-yourselfer could be a good choice for someone with a small amount of money. However, if the issue is more serious, you could actually end up spending more with a do-it-yourselfer. Why? Well, do-it-yourselfers usually do not have the tools, equipment and training that motorcycle service professionals have. So, if they encounter a major problem, they might have to do more research to figure out how to resolve it.

And even after the research, the problem may still be out of reach for a do-it-yourselfer. But, if they are in the need of the money, they might try to fix it anyway causing even more damage to your vehicle. So, you may still be forced to go to a professional motorcycle service. Only this time you're out however much you initially paid the do-it-yourselfer.

On the other hand, with an established motorcycle service, you are dealing with individuals who are experts in their craft. Most likely, they have seen all kinds of problems throughout their career. And if they haven't, (like new repairmen), chances are their more experienced colleagues have. So, basically, there's always some sort of a reference point, whether it's through previous repair work or help from another co-worker.

In addition, many motorcycle services specialize in preventative maintenance. This means that in the long run, you would end up paying hardly anything in repairs, because your motorcycle would never break down in the first place. And if it does break down, the damage wouldn't be as bad. Do-it-Yourselfers tend to have more street knowledge, so you can't be 100% sure that they would be able to do these types of things for your vehicle.

All in all, going with a motorcycle service is usually a better option when you're having problems with your bike. This is not to say that you should never consider going to a do-it-yourselfer in fact, many mechanics started out expressing their talent through do-it-yourself side jobs. But if you want more of a guarantee that your vehicle will be fixed, you're better off sticking
with the professionals.

Why You Should Get Professional Motorcycle Repair

If you are a motorcycle guru, chances are you might already have knowledge regarding motorcycle repair. Yet, this does not necessarily mean you should forego getting help from a professional.

Why? Well, motorcycle repair professionals: use specialized equipment, possess advanced training and have the ability to get your motorcycle fixed in a reasonable amount of time.

One of the best reasons you should go to a motorcycle repair professional is because they use specialized equipment. Sure, you may think ordinary tools will do the job, but sometimes they could do damage to your vehicle. But in the case of motorcycle repair professionals, any tools they use are designed just for motorcycles. And in some cases, these tools might be too expensive to get as an ordinary person. So, don't think that you'll be able to get a hold of them yourself at least not at a decent price.

Another reason why you need to consider motorcycle repair professionals is because they have been trained for the job. Since most reputable repair shops require some type of certification, you can be assured that the person working on your bike knows what they are doing. You, on the other hand, may only have a street knowledge of motorcycle repair. And while that may work fine for minor issues, major repairs will require additional skills, skills that take more time to learn.

Finally, motorcycle repair professionals can get your bike fixed relatively quickly. Since they already know what to do, they won't have to spend hours or even days pondering their next move. But if you do it, you may have to get books and other resources explaining the repair process. And, going through all of this information takes time. Plus, there's no guarantee you'll understand what to do even after doing your research. And, if this happens, you might spend even more time either looking for more research materials or trying to fix the motorcycle with your current understanding. But if you do the latter, you could put your bike at risk.

In conclusion, unless you happen to be a motorcycle repair professional yourself, you're better off taking your bike to a shop the next time it breaks down. Yes, you will have to pay some money, but the reward is much greater than getting your biked fixed without any further hassles. And that in itself is very valuable. Maybe even more valuable than the money you would've saved originally.

Tips on Tyre Pressure for Your Motor Bike

But the more the do think about them, the more you realise just how important those two round, black and sticky hoops are. After all, there's only two contact patches the size of the palm of your hand between you and road, but those two patches make all the difference between you keeping on smiling, or bouncing down the road in an expensive and painful tangle of man and machine.

Maintaining the correct tyre pressure for your motor bike is essential to ensuring it handles correctly, and maintains optimum levels of grip whether you're accelerating, decelerating, cornering hard at a track day or simply cruising along.

On top of this, incorrect tyre pressures will mean your tyres will wear faster and possibly unevenly, costing you some serious money over the long term, and compromising the handling on your motor bike.

You'll no doubt hear a range of claims as to what are the best pressures to run in your own tyres, but the best advice is this: simply follow whatever guidelines have been laid out by your tyres manufacturer.

Pressures vary for road bikes and scooters tyres due to many factors, such as tyre construction and the type and weight of the bike. So listen to the experts - the people that made the tyre in the first place. The manufacturer's website is a good place to start.

When you know what pressures you should be running in your tyres, it's essential you maintain them. Check your pressures once a week, and visually inspect your tyres while you're at it to check for any cuts, tears or punctures - it's better you find out about them in the comfort of your own garage, than come to a halt stranded out on the road.

Make sure you check your pressures when the tyres are cold, and use a proper pressure gauge; it might set you back $20 or $30 (or more), but it'll be far more accurate than anything you'll generally find on a petrol station forecourt. You'll be able to purchase one at any decent motorcycle accessories outlet.

Save Gas With a Scooter

Scooters can be a great benefit to many. Whether you are looking to save money or in helping a senior citizen regain his independence a scooter may be just what you need. Maybe you are interested in a scooter because you know they are inexpensive to buy and to operate.
Motor scooters are very versatile and offer just about anyone a good reason to own one. So whether you want a motor scooter to save money or to provide an increase in the quality of life for a love one, motorized scooters may be the way to achieve your goals.
But the best reason to own a gas motor scooter or an electric scooter is very simple: they are fun and exciting. Gas scooters can be faster, but disability scooters are safe and reliable.
Become familiar with the electric scooter or gas scooter before you ride. Read and understand instructional manuals. Riding your scooter with control and safety will require practice. Anyone that will be riding the scooter needs to know the proper way to ride his or her scooter. Front brakes on the scooter provide most of your stopping power. Practice at a safe speed until you are comfortable with how they work. Be sure to shift your weight to the rear when applying brakes, and lean forward when accelerating. Keep feet apart for more stability.
Ride your scooter in a safe place away from other vehicles and in an area which will not disturb other people or animals. Be sure the riding area is a clean and dry surface. Do not ride in high traffic areas.

What type of motor scooter do you need?
Gas powered motor scooters have small wheels and a gasoline engine.
Electric motor scooters are generally heavier and larger.
Folding scooter or stand-up motor scooter has two wheels are are usually use for short distances around the neighborhood and are also called children's scooters.
Motor scooters for the handicapped are called mobility scooters and are typically electric.

Yes, whether you want a scooter for kids, teens, adults or the elderly it will certainly be easy to find one that will fit your needs. Scooters are cheap to own and to operate and will fill the needs of many. Plus, they are fun.

Tips on Riding Motorcycles - Surface Tension

Balancing on two wheels as you make your way around corners is an inherently precarious thing, and so it's vital you keep the condition of the road ahead in mind when you're out and about, and are aware of the dangers you're likely to encounter in certain situations and environments.

Obviously you're going to experience significantly reduced levels of grip in the wet, and so your motorcycle riding should be adjusted to suit. Slow down; increase the distance between yourself and the vehicle in front; position your body more to the inside around corners (thus keeping the motorcycles or scooters more upright, with less stress on its tyre's contact patches); and avoid super slippery stuff like the plague - like metal grates, white line markings, cat's eyes and crack sealant. In built-up areas when it's raining, especially in the peak hours or around lunch time, watch out for hapless pedestrian darting across the road, and be particularly careful when it's just started raining after a prolonged dry spell - ie when road grime has had a chance to build up, and hasn't yet been washed away by the downpour.

Spilled diesel, petrol or oil are also things to look out for when riding motorcycles, but they're often not easy to pick up before it's too late. Any rainbow-coloured pools on the road need to be given a wide berth, and a decent build-up of oil can make water bead on top of it in the wet. Sometimes a vehicle with a loose fuel cap will leave a long trail of spilt fuel behind it - fortunately this is easier to pick up, so adjust your line to suit, but in general be wary of any discolouration on the road in front of you. Also be aware of where you're more likely to encounter these slippery characters - like at busy intersections, in industrial estates and on petrol station forecourts. When stopping at particularly slippery intersections, pull up either to the left or right of your lane, avoiding the oily centre, and put down whatever foot falls to the outside of the lane.

Loose gravel can pose a major headache too, and this is often a problem when a road has been recently re-sealed. Learn to scan the surface of the road ahead. You can learn to spot a dubious patch pretty effectively, and use your ears too - a road with loose stuff will have a different sound, as the loose bits get picked up by your tyres and are then flung against your guards.

Finally, take care if you're riding motorcycles anywhere near tram or light rail tracks. Ride between the tracks and don't cross them on too shallow an angle - especially when it's wet, when rubber and cold steel are a particularly bad combination. The rule of thumb here is don't be paranoid, just be aware - with a trained eye and an informed mind you will be able to effectively avoid the vast majority of road surface nasties as they crop up.

Tips on Preparing your Car for Resale

There are numerous factors that determine a vehicle's resale value, such as the make and model of the vehicle as well as its age, mileage and overall condition. Although a large portion of the resale value is predetermined, car owners can increase the value by taking proper care of the vehicle to keep it in its optimum condition.

The service specialists at Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge provide the following tips to help car owners prepare their vehicles for resale or trade-in:

* Have all ownership materials. The documentation that accompanied the vehicle when first purchased is a key component in resale value. Ownership materials include the warranty manual and owner's manual. It also is important to have the spare key and, when applicable, the convertible top boot cover.

* Look under the hood and fill all fluids. These include brake fluid, power steering fluid and wiper fluid, along with oil, coolant and antifreeze.

* Do basic operational checks. First, check the dashboard to see if any warning lights are lit and address any indicated problems. Second, make sure all lights, locks, windows, wipers, turn signals, the trunk release, mirrors, seat belts, defrosters, the horn, air conditioning and heat systems and seat adjusters work. Accessories that were purchased with the vehicle, such as heated seats or a sunroof, should also be in working order.

* Conduct your own road test. Make sure the vehicle easily starts and the gear selector functions properly. Also, check steering performance and make sure that the cruise control, overdrive, gauges and sound system are in tip-top shape. Finally, check to see if the acceleration and brakes are operating effectively.

* Check for leaks. Inspect under the hood for any dramatic decreases in fluid levels.

* Evaluate overall appearance. Externally, check for dents and scratches, ensure all the wheels match and are filled, and remove any decals and stickers. Internally, clean the floors, mats and seats, along with the panels and dashboard. Remove all personal items from the glove compartment and trunk. Finally, have your vehicle professionally washed and detailed prior to having the resale value evaluation.

And lastly, Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge specialists recommend regular service and maintenance checkups by certified automotive experts throughout your vehicle's life. Although your dealership should keep a detailed history of your vehicle on file, keep your own record of all checkups and maintenance performed on your vehicle in a logbook to demonstrate that proper care was provided. - NU

How to Find the Ideal Van in a Hurry

Most of us get by quite happily having nothing other than a car to get around in, but other people have needs and requirements that mean a car doesn’t quite fit the bill.

But looking for what you need can be a real headache. Buying a car isn’t too difficult – there are plenty of dealerships and garages that have forecourts filled with likely specimens. But vans of all types are a little harder to come by in your everyday travels.

But there is a solution. Whatever kind of van you need – from a small van for work, to a caravan for going on holiday – searching for one online is far easier than driving round all your local showrooms or looking in the papers.

The main advantage is in the speed at which you can find the kind of van you are looking for. The search facilities available on each site generally allow you to narrow down the number of vans which appear on your screen, so you are instantly limiting the results to those you are most likely to be interested in. Think about the keywords that will find the listings you are after - you might want to search for a specific colour or size or other criteria.

For example, you might be passionate about attending boot fairs each and every Sunday morning while the weather is good, and your car just isn’t big enough to hold the amount of items you now have. All you really need is a small van with rear and side access, so you simply search for those terms and see what comes up. Alternatively you might have a specific make and model of van in mind, in which case those will be your search terms.

If you’re looking for caravans for sale you’ll also find a large number of caravan classified ads online. As there are far more variables when searching for your ideal caravan, it’s a good idea to write down the main features you are looking for before you begin. You might want a certain size, or one which comes with a detachable awning, for example. Anything you can do to narrow down the number of classified ads you have to search through will save you time in the long run.

If you already have a van and you are looking to get rid of it in favour of a newer model, why not consider selling your current van online? Make sure all the relevant information is included in your advert, and think about those keywords – they could get you a sale far sooner than you think.

Online classified ads are getting excellent responses all across the internet. Whatever you are selling – from a toy car to a real van – a classified ad is the best way to get your item seen.

Safely Load and Unload Vans When Moving House

When moving house or flat, a large number of people opt to hire a van rather than paying a removal company. When lifting heavy objects there are a few thing you need to watch out for.

When lifting heavy objects in and out of the van, it is important to observe a few safety rules to reduce any chance of injury.

Test the weight of an object or box before lifting. If it is too heavy, make sure you ask someone for assistance or if possible, break it into smaller parts.

Ensure the path is clear from where you are to the van, ensure there are no hazardous objects which may cause you to fall., Open all doors in advance whenever possible, including the van door.

When liftin heavy objects, ensure your footing is firm, your feet should be shoulder width apart and you should squat to the ground keeping your back straight. Next, straighten your knees steadily, keeping your back straight. Don't turn or twist your body.

Keep the box or object steady and close to your body, take short steps and keep your feet shoulder width apart. If you feel tired, put the object down and rest.

Wear gloves if possible to protect your hands, and when available, use a trolley or lifting aid as this will make the process much easier, and ensure the objects are securely loaded in the van and that the weight is evenly distributed.

A Few Tips on What to Look for When Buying Car Audio Systems

Car audio systems are divided into four major parts. The source, the sound, the bass and the power. The source consists of your stereo system. This could be your CD/DVD player. The sound consists of speakers while the bass is made of subwoofers which are responsible for incorporating the bass. Amplifiers drive in the power and they are a very vital component. There are many types of each of the above and you can get information from sites. Among the things you will know about the products are the features, specifications and you will even view the products. They have entertained millions of people throughout the years and their technology keeps on getting better. If you are not too familiar with these systems taking time to research on them will uncover great products which have outdone their time.

Subwoofers come in very many varieties and you will discover the new generation subwoofers. If you want to get the shallow series category, every kind is there for your asking. Component speakers and other kinds of speakers also come in the latest technologies. You should consider a few things while getting car audio systems. Firstly, you need to buy a product that you like. You must be attracted to their design, make, color and even function. If you just want a system to replace your old broken stereo, consider just viewing the available options and get to learn what they have to offer. Secondly, know the size you want to get. There are people who get what they want just to realize the fitting is wrong. This happens when you purchase a product in a hurry.

You should take time and discover that the stores that distribute car audio systems have an organized system to help you know the exact size that will fit your car. The system must have the kind of features that will suit you. Too many features have been known to choke the imagination of a person. They have also been known to entertain people. Know the kind of feature you would appreciate. There is nothing wrong in getting a more traditional stereo. If the system does not have the right gadgets you desire, do not purchase it. Get the most contemporary. Consider the brands you would desire. With very many brands to choose from, you can search for the most trusted brands. Their product reviews are worth reading for this purpose.

Some of the top brands include Alpine, Kenwood, Infinity, Pioneer, Sony and the list is endless. The next thing you want to pay attention to is the quality. You need to go beyond brands to make sure that the products are not counterfeits. This can only be done by buying from authorized dealers. Let the store you visit have a valid trading license. Get to know their history. Many ignorant people have gone ahead to purchase from dealers who have obvious flaws about their legality. This obvious flaws can be known by the kind of service they offer. They will not display utmost professionalism. One of the most important thing to consider is price. Car audio systems are affordable and one can have the option of purchasing anything that fits their budget.
